Citizen Science, Virus Hunter Workshop in DFEi

The Science & Food Science students took part in a Virus Hunter Workshop this week with Dr. Amy Fitzpatrick, a postdoctoral fellow in UCD, whose work centers on developing innovative techniques for detecting and discovering viruses. Students were given the opportunity to take part in this Virus Hunter Citizen Science initiative and will collect environmental samples for testing over the coming week using collection kits distributed today.'

DFEi collaborate with SMART Dun Laoghaire and UCD to monitor air quality.

SMART Dun Laoghaire with UCD Score team installed a satellite dish and air quality sensors on our roof today. This is four-year EU-funded project aiming to increase climate resilience in European coastal cities. Dfei is delighted to be one of the Irish institutions involved over the next few years.

DFEi software students broaden their horizons and acquire valuable experience during visits to Dublin City University (DCU). At DCU, they put their coding skills to practical use in robotics, gaining a valuable insight into the field of computer science through this collaborative opportunity.

Wellbeing Week in Full Swing

The Wellbeing Week has been a huge success with uplifting presentations from speakers Jack Kavanagh and Sharon Fennelly. The informative discussions conducted by the Marie Keating Foundation, St. James Guide Clinic, Active Consent, and Sarah Keogh from Eatwell have significantly broadened our knowledge. Additionally, the week has offered moments of relaxation through Mindfulness sessions and the engaging drum circle activities. Special thanks to teachers Eileen Connell and Liam Toner for organising this event.
