Business and Marketing graduate, Aisling Sheridan is about to start a tech apprenticeship in cybersecurity. Aisling will study at 3rd level and also work 3 days a week in a tech apprentice partner company. For Aisling, it is a win-win. She is delighted to be getting paid and learning at the same time.

"I will spend the first 6 months of my apprenticeship training with a local ETB, the next 12 months working with my employer for 3 days a week with 2 days in college, and the final 6 months working with my employer for 4 days a week with 1 day in college. I'll also meet other apprentices alike, along with my tutor. In my first year of apprenticeship, I will earn €190 then in my second year, €280.  Really, I am most excited about getting paid to work and learn at the same time.

For alternative options and paths, I definitely think that tech apprenticeships will take off in the next couple of years.  Especially with the cost of living crisis, I think looking into apprenticeships is a great option for those who are unsure of going to college, etc.  The area I'm in, cybersecurity, is rather niche but there is an increasing need in the workforce. the EU has allocated millions to fund cybersecurity projects, training courses, and many more and I am hoping to be involved with these projects or people in the future."
